In 2006 to support the work of the numerous organisations in the cultural heritage field in the Blue Mountains. In recent years, it has expanded to include neighbouring districts such as Lithgow, Penrith and the Hawkesbury.

Zig Zag Railway, Lithgow, New South Wales, Australia. 19th Century Engineering Masterpiece and Renowned Tourist Railway. On Thursday 17 October 2013 fire swept through the railway, following an outbreak to the west the previous day, fanned by strong winds. Thanks to heroic efforts by the fire services no lives were lost. But several houses were lost. Alas much Zig Zag rolling stock was also lost. See Press Release Zig Zag Railway Fire October 2013.
